Albatros W 4

History:
The Albatros W4 patrol plane was developed on the basis of the Albatros Dl. Both planes were designed around the same time. The plane was tasked with offensive operations and patrolling important bases along the shores of the Baltic and North Seas. The Albatros Flugzeugwerke GMBH was developed by Johannistahl. The first prototype was commissioned in August 1916, but was quickly returned to the factory - it turned out that it had the wrong wing size. A month later, re-attempts were made. It is found to be difficult to pilot, but its lift and maximum speed are satisfactory. Overall, 118 aircraft were produced. Austro-Hungary had 8 of them. The last 20 machines were never used in combat.
