Cessna 150 Aerobat

American sports plane

The popularity of Cessna's single-engine high-altitude planes among modellers is not only motivated by the traditionally graceful shapes of all these aircraft. It is primarily a model-appropriate overall concept, which is a basic prerequisite for the successful imitation of the aircraft, whether in the form of a free, tethered or radio-controlled model or semi-scale model.

Cessna is one of the most suitable - acrobatic - which can as a model collect points in competitions also for acrobatic turns without the risk of objection that it is not realistic.

The rise in popularity of aerobatic flying around the world could not be left unnoticed even by manufacturers of sport aircraft. That is why even today the largest manufacturer of sports aircraft, the American company Cessna - in cooperation with the French company Reims with its European representative, offers its model 150 in acrobatic design.

The Cessna 150 is currently one of the most popular training aircraft in the West. It fully meets the stability, the initial ease of piloting and, last but not least, the price, which is only two to three times the price of an ordinary American car.

Cessna 150 Aerobat was created by modifying the design of the Cessna 150 kite to a load of +6 to -3 G at full flight weight. This allows you to fly common acrobatic turns, such as twist (controlled and kicked), throw, twist, headland, Cuban Eight, etc. Otherwise, Aerobat retains all the benefits of the Cessna 150, which has been produced in various variants over 13,000 pieces in the last 11 years.

In addition to the Aerobat version, the Standard, Trainer and Commuter versions are also currently produced, on wheels and floats, which differ only in equipment and interior.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

Cessna 150 Aerobat is an all-metal semi-self-supporting upper wing with a fixed three-wheel landing gear, designed for 2 people.

The wing of the single-girder construction with ribs is completely covered with sheet metal and the fuselage is supported by a simple strut. The middle rectangular part has a NACA 2412 profile, which in the outer trapezoidal part turns into a symmetrical profile with a simultaneous crossover of 1. The wings and flaps are also all-metal. their cover has outer protrusions (signals).

The fuselage of the half-shell construction passes behind the spacious cabin into a conical beam of elliptical cross-section. The front door is on both sides. The rich glazing of the 150 cabin is complemented by two oval windows in the ceiling of the Aerobat version. The steering is steering wheel with a throttle lever in the middle. Above the spacious dashboard, there is a "G-meter" (accelerometer) in front of the pilot. The seats are adapted for the back parachute.

The tail surfaces are self-supporting, common constructions with a sheet metal cover. The vertical tail area has a symmetrical profile thick at the root of 7.5%, at the end of 6.2%. The horizontal tail surface is profiled similarly; stabilizer adjustment is 3.

Landing gear. The main wheels of the chassis are supported by a steel leaf spring of the well-known Land-O-Matic type. The bow swivel has an oil-pneumatic strut. The brakes in the main wheels are disc, Goodyear type. All wheels are equipped with aerodynamic covers.

Engine group. Flat, four-cylinder air-cooled Continental 0-200-A engine with a starting power of 100 hp at 2750 rpm. drives an all-metal propeller with a diameter of 1.75 m. The fuel tanks in the wing in May have a standard content of 98 I.

The color of the 1970 model was for Aerobat of these shades: base white complemented by tropical orange (in the photos lighter stripes on the fuselage, the whole GTC. Black on the lower lane on the sides of the fuselage, on the chessboards on the propeller cone, on the bow of the fuselage in front of the cabin and on the SOP. as well as on the stripes on the wings from above and below. Matriculation on the fuselage white, inscriptions on the keel (Cessna) and on the rudder (150 Aerobat) black. Beige cabin interior combined with red.

Technical data and performances: Span 9.97 m. Length 7.01 m. Height 2.63 m. Wing area 146 m2 Empty weight 463 kg, largest take-off 726 kg Area load 49.8 kg / m2.

Speed: highest horizontal 193 km / h. cruising at 75% engine power 185 km / h. the smallest with flaps 77 km / h. Climb rate 3.4 m / s; access 3860 m: optimal range without reserve 890 km. Take-off length 224 m. Run-down length 136 m.

Cessna's sports high-wing aircraft are very well known for their graceful shapes and tasteful paintwork, and are often used as models for the construction of more or less accurate, but still very popular models. One of the most widespread is the 150 type, produced for many years in several versions — from family to acrobatic. They do not differ from each other in external shapes, only the interior equipment is different. What is different is the color design, which changes every year. During production, the bonnet mask underwent changes; according to the engine used, the shape of the holes is modified and possibly mounted landing lights, originally located in the left half of the wing.

The model for building the RC model was an acrobatic version, so the flight of the model, containing basic acrobatic elements, will be completely realistic even for competition scorers.
